Program Director Education and Suggestions

January 26, 2012

If you are leaning towards a career that is related to music production but are focusing more on delivering the music hot off the press to thousands of listeners in your area, then a career as a program director may be a great fit for you. Program directors usually have some kind of degree in either broadcasting (journalism) or communications but even if you do not have one of those degrees, you can still secure a job if you have experience working in radio. While in college you can apply for internships at local radio stations to get hands on experience and network with DJs, radio personalities, and program directors. When you know people in the industry who trust you and know you are a hard worker, you will be more likely to get the job. Also, you can DJ part time for an entertainment group similar to the ones that play at weddings, parties, and school dances. It’s all about starting small and working your way up.
